We are writing to you regarding our workshop ‘Psychedelic Invasion: Collective Improvisation Jam’ that we have been perfecting under the roof of the RCA for the past year. Our workshop is a movement-based experience offered in 90 minutes-long sessions. The workshop consists of various dance and mindfulness drills as well as mind-bending guided experiments (safe and natural ). The workshop is accompanied by a curated music playlist that helps the participants to commit to the process, surrender their bodies, and more than anything - surprise themselves! Having a collaborative, spontaneous and expressive nature, the workshop does not require any previous knowledge and is fully adjustable for people with disabilities. We have run multiple successful workshops in the past offering the participants to experience their bodies in a new way, by examining their nonverbal communication skills and expanding their consciousness with breathwork and sensory deprivation. A time of polarisation. From profound rooted issues and conflicts relating to racism to recent events like the pandemic. This research project involves easing the hostilities between people with different backgrounds (cultural, racial, religious, et cetera). Using machine learning and an interactive dance installation as a medium to bring people closer together, find a sense of connection with each other and reduce hostility and prejudice. On the streets, everyone puts their guards up. Within a two-meter-wide pavement, people tend to walk as far apart as they can when confronted with other strangers. We are so closed and guarded into our comfort zones, even afraid to do anything embarrassing, but when we are dancing, we seem to let go of some of those feelings and unconsciously put our guards down, especially on the dance floor. People do not mind other strangers dancing within only half a meter. The connectedness that dancing creates intrigues the author; he wants to understand why it makes us open up like that. The result is an interactive installtion (prototype). It invites people to follow, a Machine Learning ‘choreography’ moving image and dance&nbsp;either alone or with other audience, to experiment if the machine learning result can enhance the sense of connnectedness to each other. The installation will record the dance and automatically put them on the right side of the screen, creating a&nbsp;Asynchronous connection between the different audiences as well as for Zihao’s further research. Collective Improvisation I&nbsp;Length: 2 min 09 sec On the other hand, animals do not have or have fewer biases and discriminations. Zihao brought in animal and territoriality study to explore whether people can learn something from how they cope/deal with multi-species and trans territories by observing their body language and dancing behaviour. Zihao collected photographs and videos of human and non-human dancing patterns and movements. He used his body as a unified model to mimic the dance moves, creating images that form datasets. These datasets form the 'knowledge' to teach and feed Zihao's AI machine model. The aim is to find hidden links and dance choreographies that humans would have never imagined. It made it clear that A.I. ‘sees’ dancing movement as a pure database - colour, pixel pieces, and statistics; although these might not result in the final outcomes of the project, the process contributed to the logic. The goal is never changed: using dancing behaviours to bring people closer, ease the gap between people with different cultural, racial, religous backgrounds. Zihao combined his previous psychedelic research (‘Ecsperience’) with the CiI project together, to keep exploring the connection between people and dancing. The aim of the combination is to merge two experiences together and enhance the sense of connectedness to the audience. During his research, he found that both have similar network systems and both provide a sense of connectedness or a feeling of ‘self-other blurring.’ He used this point as a starter, developed an interactive dancing experience and a workshop series. In the previous CiI stage, he prototyped the installation and tested it on audiences. After analysing the pros and cons, Zihao strengthened his original installation's shortcomings in encouraging multi-person interaction through his study of psychedelic networks, and explored in greater depth how to continue to bring dance floor connections into reality.&nbsp; The CiII project applied Machine Learning, Arduino, coding (HTML, Node.js, Python), TouchDesigner, Kinect, skeleton tracing, sound recroding, etc. techniques. Collective Improvisation II Length: 4 mins 15 sec&nbsp;(Including process, outcome starts from 1:43, exhibition starts from 3:08) The installation is combined by two screens and two interactive procedures: 1. Dance floor with interactive effects and impacts, maximum participants are four people and the effects will change when different people join in, and there is no effect when only one person dancing&nbsp;for encouraging people connect and interacte with each other instead of dancing alone; 2. It is an on-going outcome as well as Zihao’s primary research for further development of the theme. The pandemic affected an invisible connection our society has described by Carl Jung as the collective unconsciousness, leading to a further fragmented culture. On the facade, human beings are separated individuals, however, there is a network lying underneath the surface that connects people’s thoughts and minds. In many philosophical and religious traditions, this idea of the inextricable intertwining of the self and the world is known as the oneness hypothesis. Oneness promotes an expansive conception of the self as fundamentally connected to other people. Hyperindividualism and its tendency toward self-centred behaviour are greatly challenged by such views. Zihao and Dor formed as a duo that practice together for sharing an interest in dance and the human experience, each coming with their approach and different disciplines. We interlace cognitive and psychedelic study with movement experience-based research. Within our practice, we question and challenge mundane phenomena, through socially engaging projects. We are fascinated with dance for being a primal intuitive means of communication hence our practice explores its boundaries and experiments with their possibility to expand. For my own understanding and expanding, architecture is a skill which does not actually belong to humans. What people can do with it is called a “lucky found” while they are exploring the world. The way of clicking and sliding the applications and networks is actually a rhythmic pattern; and social media itself (including Wechat, Instagram, Youtube, even Zoom) is an architecture: a huge, endless plaza, each post is an independent room. I was thinking if I can build my own architecture based on the rhythm, and by following the principles, it would be like an algorithm and generative design, yet, the algorithm is the rhythm. I felt like a god. While I was recording the sound and architecture in my city. I gave all life to streets, bricks, walls, and glass. I reconstituted the sound and noise of Beijing, and it leads to a newer “randomly” Beijing, which is an even bigger massive tribe. The only shame is that I cannot ask someone else to build the city with me, and I cannot live in that newer city for now. The reason is that the fine quality of lacquer craftsmanship has been out of touch with the current concept of industrialization and standardization - the conflict between over decoration and and function-lead outcomes.&nbsp; However, what is really contrary is not the techniques of lacquer art. Therefore,I used the technique of lacquer art to achieve precise and standardized computer graphics.The result reflects the natural, uncontrollable and unrepeatable beauty of craftsmanship. In&nbsp;China, there is a move of the same&nbsp;meaning, saying: Pe, Pe, Pe.&nbsp;I am a very "superstitious" person&nbsp;and have a "superstition system"&nbsp;that combines the both of the&nbsp;actions, which is also widely used&nbsp;by people who are post-90s and&nbsp;accepting both Eastern and Western education. We comfort ourselves and get instant happiness&nbsp;by doing self-hypnosis.
